It’s so important for us as fundraisers to stay positive right now. I find myself purposely ignoring the news because I don’t want to fill my mind with the negativity. I’d much rather focus on the positive.
In John Frank’s newsletter this month he says
I believe we are in danger of losing credibility with our donors during these times of negative media on every issue of life. One of the main reasons why people give to a nonprofit or a ministry is to “be a part of something bigger than themselves”.
I think he’s right.
We’ve got to keep sharing the stories of the magnificent work our nonprofit organiations are doing. We must show donors that we are staying the course and help them understand how their support makes a difference.
The important thing is to stay focused on the work your organization is doing. Don’t give in to the doom and gloom. If you start believing that you can’t raise money in this economy, it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I invite you to join me for a free teleseminar on April 22 called “Fundraising in Tough Times.” I’ll be sharing some inspiration and motivation to help keep you going. The call starts at 2:00 pm eastern and will last about an hour.
